We're excited to announce Amelia Harris as the newest Anchal team member! We first met Amelia when she attended our Connecting Things Louisville talk last summer at dyeScpape and were immediately drawn to her passion and magnetic personality.
Amelia joins the team as Operations and Programs Coordinator. We recently took the opportunity to chat with Amelia to discuss her excitement about working with Anchal on #designingchange:
What are you most looking forward to about working at Anchal?
I am looking forward to learning from and growing with all of the women involved in Anchal. From the people I see in the office every day, to those overseas that I only hear stories about, I am constantly inspired by everyone involved and excited to be a part of design that changes lives.
The addiction to Anchal products is real - do you have a favorite style or collection you are most excited about?
Personally, I am most excited about the new collection that is just being released. I have spent a lot of time preparing it for the launch and I have fallen in love with the new pieces. What really catches my eye is the pinks we incorporated this year. It will be the perfect spring/summer staple. But, looking to the more traditional pieces, my favorite is any of the bandanas. It’s super fun and easy to incorporate them into just about any of my outfits by tying it around my neck, wrist, or (my personal favorite) hair.
What do you enjoy doing in your free time?
I have just recently gotten into rock climbing. I’m still quite the amateur but it is one of my favorite things to do after a long day at the office. Other than that, I adore being a host to my friends by throwing dinner parties (or more often breakfast parties) and taking road trips as frequently as possible.
Growing up in Louisville, what are your favorite places to go or hand out?
I have grown up in Louisville my whole life but have only recently discovered what I think is the ideal Saturday in Louisville. Starting off at the Douglas Loop Farmers Market, you can pick up more than just produce. They have homemade bread, cheese, hummus, and even kombucha. Head down Bardstown road and you can find where I spend a good amount of my time and money: Quills Coffee. Having won plenty of coffee competitions, they have also won my heart. Just a couple of doors down is one of my absolute favorite restaurants. El Taco Luchador probably has the greatest tacos I’ve had in Louisville and makes for the perfect lunch. The rest of my perfect Saturday can be spent roaming the shops in Nulu (Mahonia for plants being my favorite) and finishing off at Climb Nulu where one can venture into the wonderful world of bouldering (or rock climbing without and ropes).
Do you have a favorite quote of mantra?
A quote that I always have in mind is a piece of a verse from the Bible. It says “Consider the lilies of the field, they neither toil nor spin” (Matthew 6:28). This is basically to remind me to look at the flowers in their effortless beauty. They never work too hard for it and always bloom in their own time.
If you could design any change in the world, big or small, what would it be?
If I could design any change in the world it would be to find a way to make everyone feel at home and at peace. A reason I love Anchal is because we strive towards the larger goal of helping those who are oppressed take control of their lives in hopes of a better future. This shows even in our name which directly translates to the word shelter.
What is one fun fact we should know about you?
It is my goal in life to make the world's greatest omelette.
Please join us in welcoming Amelia to the team!
