It's hard to believe another year has already gone by! On October 27, we celebrated 5 years in Ajmer, India. We can't believe how quickly time has gone. Our whole team of artisans gathered in Ajmer for a small celebration over snacks and a movie. Saloni, our Project Director, shared photos and details from the day:
We reached Ajmer at 12:00 pm along with our team. We decided to show the artisans the movie Mardaani, starring a famous Indian actress Rani Mukherjee, and let them enjoy snacks during the viewing. Mardaani is a movie based on child sex trafficking, where a young girl is forced into prostitution and a female detective makes it her mission to find her. The film shows the struggle and challenges the woman faces to find the missing girl. However, despite all of the challenges, she reaches the girl and is able to punish them men that took her. The message our artisans were able to take from the movie was that if you stay strong, you can overcome the hardships in your life.
Initially when the movie began, our artisans were not very interested, but as the storyline progressed and the plot developed, they were all watching with eyes wide open. It was very interesting to see that transition in their emotions! In fact, at the end, they all clapped when the culprit was punished and the girls were rescued.
We held a brief discussion with our artisans about the movie and Anchal at the end of the day. We wanted to ask them what lesson they took away from the film. Most of the women answered that if a girl believes that she is strong then she can fight against anything wrong happening to her or around her. They also said that if your intentions are good and you are determined than you can face any difficult situation which is in front of you, even if you have to face it alone.
We are so proud of the strong women are artisans have become. Thank you for your continued support of Anchal Project. Here's to another great year!
