While we were celebrating the wedding, Colleen & I stayed with our partner NGO-- Vatsalya/Anoothi-- at the Vatsalya Children's village in Achrol, India.
Vatsalya's mission is to bring children off the streets of Achrol and give them the opportunity to lead happy, dignified lives with hope for the future. They accomplish this by providing the children with basic needs such as a place to live, food to eat & clean water to drink. Additionally, they provide education in courses such as literature, art, math & science. The children's village is a campus with dorms, a school, and a large place to play. They encourage them to dance, meditate, practice yoga & play sports.
After one week at the Children's Village, I noticed the most valuable thing Vatsalya may offer is the sense of community. Boys and girls of all ages learn, play, laugh, support & take care of each other. It is like a large network of siblings and Colleen & I were immediately welcomed into the group.
We can't wait to go back!
