A girl is born in Ajmer, India. Her family is poor, so her mom finds work as a sex worker which offers higher paying work with more flexible hours than the obvious alternatives. As a sex worker, she is considered a criminal and is ostracized from her community. As a criminal her children – this girl – can be kicked out of school on a moment’s notice. When that happens her education stops. Her opportunities end. This girl’s fate is shared by all children of sex workers. This girl’s mother once had dreams of her own that didn’t include living as a criminal. These are the women and children of Anoothi.

Anoothi is Anchal’s newest partner based in Ajmer. Anoothi owes its existence to the combination of two very different elements - compassion and creativity. The founding vision of Anoothi is “Creativity supports Life.” Their objective is to generate funds to benefit the thousands of rural women living in poverty simply because they do not have a support system to empower them and help them realize their true potential.

Anoothi believes in extending this process of empowerment to the next generation of India and contributes support and maintenance to the Children’s Village in Jaipur. This is a place created and managed by sister NGO Vatsalya, where many orphaned and abandoned children find refuge and grow to become healthy and productive citizens of the world.

Vatsalya works to rehabilitate orphaned and abandoned children and provide them with health and advocacy services. Vatsalya assists Anoothi in creating the Self Help Groups, assisting in management, training, micro credit and microfinance activities.
